Computer Basics you must
know.
Part
1.
So you have just received your
new computer, you have managed to put it all together and are just
itching to fire it up and see what it can do. Not only that you
want to check out a few CD's your mates have given you and get onto
the internet and check out a few sites on your new broadband
connection.
Wait right there !
Check out if you have these
next four very important security programs.
1/. Does your new computer
have an
Anti-Virus program installed ?
If the answer is
No:
- Do
not put in any
of your mates CD's or go onto the internet. Do not even be tempted
to go onto the internet as all it takes is one virus and it could
be curtains for your hard drive.
- Install / buy an Anti- Virus
program before you do anything else.
Arguably the most important
program on your computer is the Anti-Virus.
If the answer is
Yes :
- Open the program and make sure
it is running.
- Check for and install
updates.
- Check the Options /
configuration settings of your program. Most programs have default
settings but some still need to be set up to look after your
computer.
2/. Is there an
Anti-Spyware program installed?
If the answer is
No:
- Do
not go
onto the Internet yet !
- Buy / install an Anti-Spyware
program ASAP.

If the answer is
Yes:

updates.
- Check options /
configuration settings of your program. Most programs have default
settings but some still need to be set up.
3/. Have you got a
Firewall ?
Even though Windows XP
SP2 has its own Firewall it is best to install your own
Firewall. Amongst other things it stops hackers getting
into your computer and stealing your information. For more
information

4/. Do you have an
Anti-Spam program ?
Unfortunately even on the
internet you are not safe from junk mail wether you want it or not.
Having an
Anti-Spam program, it sorts out your junk mail from your
normal mail and puts it in a special folder where you can look at
it, if you wish, when and if you want to. And some of these
messages can be very tasteless.

Anti-Spam programs and exactly what they do just
The best security program ( in
my opinion) is to get the all in one programs called
Internet Security Suite. It incorporates all four of the
above programs and is cheaper than buying all four
individually.
In short if you have a computer
and especially if it is connected to the internet you should have
these security programs installed on your computer to keep it and
your information safe.
